Botox
The muscles in our face constantly wrinkle the skin to form facial expressions. Over time some of these wrinkles become permanently etched in our face as forehead wrinkles, “frown lines,” and “crow’s feet.” Although some facial expression wrinkles can be attractive, some are not - particularly if the lines make us look overly angry, sad, aged or tired. Relaxing the muscles that form those unwanted wrinkles is one very effective way of looking happier, younger and more energetic. This is where “Botox,” the trademark for botulinum toxin, has had huge success. Since botulinum toxin paralyzes muscles temporarily, injections of small amounts of Botox in selected upper facial muscles can weaken the muscle and prevent frowning, crow’s feet and expression lines. Although not everyone will get a complete effect, the results are dramatic in most people.
The solution is injected with very little pain using a small needle into the muscle. You can expect to see the benefits develop over three to five days. Final results may not be apparent for as many as thirty days. Most results last anywhere from two to five months. Three months effect is typical.
Side effects and complications have been minimal. Occasionally slight swelling and/or bruising may last for several days after the injections. Rarely an adjacent muscle may be weakened for several weeks after an injection. See our Botox Consent Form for more complete disclosure of the risks and benefits of Botox injections for facial wrinkles.
